REVIEW: Waiting Here for You by Louie Giglio

About the Book-

It comes the same time every year. Christmas. We have plenty of time to anticipate it, or in some cases...dread it. And, before we know it, it's gone as quickly as it came. What's it all for? Is there really hope for today in the story of a baby born so long ago? Those questions and others are answered in the promises of Advent. Advent is simply a season of expectant waiting and preparation. Most often, the arrival of an event or a person is made all the more sweet by our anticipation. How could waiting and expectation change your Christmas season? Join pastor and author Louie Giglio on an Advent journey to discover that waiting is not wasting when you're waiting on the Lord. Take hold of the chance to uncover the vast hope offered through the journey of Advent. In Waiting Here for You, readers will find peace and encouragement for their souls as anticipation leads toward celebration.

My Review-

Waiting Here for You by Louie Giglio is short book on Advent, specifically focusing on the Hope of Christmas. It's a book where you can read one passage each day, which is actually the point of this book or you can do what I did and read it all in one straight shot. And that didn't take long either, I think I read the whole thing in about 30 minutes. Yeah, it's that short. But I loved what I found inside. The Hope of Christmas is something we all need, especially in our world today, which is full of negativity, darkness, and immorality. This is a great Advent book perfect for yourself or as a gift to a loved one for Advent/Christmas season.

When another tragedy places Elianna in sole charge of the business, her talent for design brings enormous success, but never the absolution she longs for. As her world unravels, she breaks off her betrothal to the only man she will ever love. Then illness strikes, isolating Elianna from everyone, stripping everything she has left.

About the Book

What is revealed when you draw back the curtain of the Greatest Show on Earth?

Rosamund Easling is no stranger to opulence. As the daughter of an earl, she’s grown up with every comfort money can buy. But when hard times befall the family’s Yorkshire estate in the aftermath of the Great War, Rosamund’s father sells her beloved horse, setting the stage for a series of events that would extend beyond even her wildest dreams.

Though expected to marry for a title instead of love, Rosamund feels called to a different life – one of adventure outside the confines of a ladies’ parlor. She abandons all she’s known and follows in pursuit as her horse is shipped to the new owner – an American entertainer by the name of John Ringling. Once introduced to the Ringling Brothers’ circus and knowing she has much to learn, Rosamund agrees to a bareback riding apprenticeship in the shadow of the Ringlings’ winter home—Ca’D’Zan. It is at that mansion, in what would become the last days of the enigmatic Mable Ringling’s life, that Rosamund finds a deeper sense of purpose in the life she’s been given, and the awakening of faith in her heart.

With a supporting cast of characters as mysterious and dazzling as the Ringlings’ big-top world, Rosamund’s journey takes her from the tradition of the English countryside to the last days of America’s Roaring ‘20s—a journey that forever changes what one life might have been.

COVER REVEAL: So Rare a Gem by Amber Lynn Perry

About the Book

Escape is Anna Rone’s only option. Never again will she be trapped in a loveless marriage. A new life in America means safety—and discovering the truth behind her beloved brother’s death. But when she is nearly captured and forced to return to England, her vow to never marry for anything but love is forgotten when she must marry for protection. Perhaps the handsome man she accepts is truly as caring as he seems. If he is not, her future in America is darker than ever before.
Captain Henry Donaldson aided the colonists too many times. And now, the British army intends to make him pay with his life. Without his friends in Sandwich, he would be a dead man. He’s already changed his name, and when the kind, courageous woman he rescued offers to become his bride, he accepts despite the risks. His past taught him that women are not to be trusted and that love can cut deeper than the sword. Only time will reveal if this choice will bring the greatest pain he’s ever known.

About the Author

I’m happy to say I’ve lived in American’s great Northwest for most of my life and currently, I reside in Washington state. “Wow, that’s a beautiful place,” you say. Well, it is for most of Washington, but I’m blessed (eh hem, pardon the sarcasm) to live in the most un-green place in all the Evergreen State. But I’m not bitter. *wink*
Ever since I was a young girl I wanted to be—no, not a writer—a stay-at-home mom. And after all these years, God has listened to my prayers and blessed me with two adorable daughters with whom I get to enjoy every single day. We do homeschool, and color, and play dress-up, and clean house, and make cookies, and read books—lots of books.
Speaking of books . . . it wasn’t until recently that I wanted to start writing and once I did, I knew I’d found my calling. I love to write stories (romance, of course!) set in my favorite era: Colonial America. *sigh* Perfect for a fabulous romance and high adventure, wouldn’t you agree?
I love this country—especially our “creation” years preceding, during, and following the Revolution. I am a strong believer in the principles of liberty and freedom.
As you may know, as well as being a patriot, I’m also a stalwart follower of Christ and a happy member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

In addition to writing, I like to sing, travel, and bake delicious Gluten-Free foods.

This cover for "So Rare a Gem" is so pretty!!! I literally can't stop staring at it. In fact, all the covers for this series are absolutely gorgeous!! If you like Historical Romance set in the Colonial era than this is definitely the series for you.
So Rare a Gem releases in Spring 2016. As soon as I know of an exact date I will update this post. And since it doesn't come out until then we have plenty of time to re-read the previous two novels, "So Fair a Lady" and "So True a Love"

What Are You Reading? PLUS Life Updates!

What Are You Reading?

So we're officially heading into Winter and the Christmas season!! Anybody else excited? But of course Thanksgiving is tomorrow and this year and for years to come Thanksgiving has even more meaning for me. It was earlier this year when I discovered I am a descendant of several who came to America on the Mayflower. Including but not limited to: Francis Cooke, Captain Myles Standish, John Alden and a few more. That means my ancestors would have taken part in the first Thanksgiving in America. That was an incredible find this year along with many others. So since we're almost to the Winter season I wanted to ask, What are you reading right now?

Currently I'm reading the stories below.

Life Updates

We have MOVED!! Although we're still living out boxes. I've put up my bookshelves and have barely made a dent in filling them back up again. Organizing your shelves takes so much time when you own a ton of books.

Today it SNOWED!!!  It's a very white Thanksgiving!!

The Sword and the Song by C.E. Laureano is the third and final book in The Song of Seare trilogy. And it's the best and most action-packed in the series. This series is very popular among Christian readers and that's not a suprise. The Song of Seare series gives you everything you want in a Fantasy series except no graphic violence, foul language, and graphic sex.

REVIEW: Girl in the Song by Chrissy Cymbala Toledo

About the Book

A fascinating true storyChrissy grew up surrounded by the beauty of love and the ugliness of pain. The daughter of a pastor whose church was located in a rough-and-tumble area of Brooklyn, she witnessed the ravaging effects of the streets on the lives of the most desperate--drug addicts, derelicts, and other destitute people. Yet her own home was a haven of warmth, filled with affection and love. Then something happened that tore her away from it. With the flip of a switch, Chrissy fell deeper and deeper into deception where haunting images and songs pointed to one thing--perfection. Longing to be the girl in the song, she became entangled in an obsessive relationship. Before long, secret after secret led her down the path to becoming someone she didn't even recognize. Locked in to an impossible life, Chrissy found release from a surprising direction."Girl in the Song" tells the gripping, true story of a young woman whose choices led her to despair and incredible triumph. More than the story of one lost girl, Chrissy's experience points to the power of hope to lead us away from destructive relationships and into a life that just might end happily ever after.

My Review

Rating: 4.5 stars

Read Girl in the Song in just a few short hours. It's short and to the point and without sugar coating. Uplifting and inspiring.

REVIEW: Luther and Katharina by Jody Hedlund

About the Book

Katharina von Bora has seen nothing but the inside of cloister walls since she was five. In a daring escape, Katharina finds refuge with Martin Luther and seeks his help to pair her with the noble, wealthy husband she desires.

As class tensions and religious conflicts escalate toward the brink of war, Martin Luther believes that each day could be his last and determines he will never take a wife.
As the horrors of the bloody Peasant War break out around them, the proud Katharina and headstrong Martin Luther fight their own battle for true love, in one of the greatest love stories of history.

My Review

Luther and Katharina is yet another hit for Jody Hedlund. Luther and Katharina tells the love story of Martine Luther and his wife Katharina Von Bora. When they first meet Luther is still a monk and she a nun. Not long after Luther leaves the Catholic Church because of certain practices being done that were not biblical. Luther writes and nails the 95 Theses to door of the church, he has to hide for a time and eventually finds himself in front of the King and Cardinal. They ask hime to recant everything he has said and done. Luther refuses. I loved reading a fictional tale about Luther and his wife. It was a tale I had yet to read and it was very enjoyable.

REVIEW: Wicked Women of the Bible by Ann Spangler

About the Book

What can Jezebel, the Bible s wickedest queen, reveal about God s holiness and power and even about his sense of humor? What about the Woman at the Well the one with five husbands and a live-in lover? And what of the prostitute whose tears bathe the feet of Jesus in front of people who despise her?

There are also wicked good women like Deborah, Ruth, Hannah, Abigail, Esther, Mary, and more. What do their lives tell us about God s invincible love and his determined plan to save us?

In Wicked Women of the Bible Ann Spangler tells the stories of twenty wicked and wicked good women in greater detail. At the end of each story, Ann provides a brief section including additional historical and cultural background as well as a brief Bible study in order to enhance the book s appeal to both individuals and groups.

The stories of these women of the Bible reveal a God who is not above it all but who stoops down to meet us where we are in order to extend his love and mercy.

My Review

Rating: 4 stars

Wicked Women of the Bible by Ann Spangler is a book taking a studious but approachable look at 20 women of the Bible. Some of them wicked evil and others wicked good. Women such as Jezebel, Deborah, Ruth, Abigail, and Esther. Not only are each woman talked about in greater detail than ever, also at the end of each portion the author gives us extra historical and cultural background of each woman. This book was engaging as it was informative.
